Sterling
Silver Crimp tubes are used exactly the same as the plated
base metal crimps. Use crimps to connect clasps to thin
thread such as Beadalon, Softflex
and Supplemax (monofilament)
thread. Generally any threads where you cannot tie knots,
even though you can tie Softflex
and some types of Beadalon.
Crimps
are also used on spacer necklaces (there is an example on
our 'How
to Leaflet' on one of these), where the crimp
beads are crushed either side of a bead so it does not move.
Crimp beads and tubes have also been known to be used as
spacers as well.
Then again you can use crimp beads just like any other normal
bead. The only difference is the internal diameter of the
crimp will restrict which threads and wire you can thread
them on to!

Sterling Silver Twisted Crimp Tubes
(Internal diameter of 1.3mm)
Twisted Crimp Tubes aren't as circular as the crimp tubes above, these crimp tubes are slightly oval and measure approx.2mm in diameter and 3mm in length. Twisted crimp tubes grip your thread very effectively simply by crushing with flat nose or chain nose pliers. These crimps are designed to be crimped without the use of crimping pliers!
