A Brief History of Murano Glass.

Murano Glass is produced on a small island off of the coast of Italy near Venice. It is believed that the glass makers were moved to the island by the Venetian Government around the 13th Century due to their concern for the safety of the city. Most buildings back then were built from wood and you require a large source of heat to melt glass. Very sensible. This also enabled the glass makers to protect their art from being poached by the outside world. So every one wins, including us as we can still apprieciate the splendour,
